David Fernández Caravaca (Córdoba, 1995) is one of the leading figures of a new generation of Spanish conductors. Winner of the MDR Symphony Orchestra Conducting Competition in Leipzig in 2026 and of the inaugural Juventudes Musicales de España Conducting Competition in 2023, he has consolidated his career through major engagements in Spain and across Europe, earning recognition for his expressive clarity and command of both the symphonic and operatic repertoire. As part of his growing recognition in Spain, he was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León for two seasons, collaborating regularly with the OSCyL Joven. 

Highlights of the 2026/27 season include the opening concert of the Neorama Festival, leading the JM World Orchestra and the Coro de Ópera de Granada at the Teatro del Generalife, his debut with the Orquesta de Extremadura, and returns to the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and Concertgebouw Young, as well as a concert with the MDR-Sinfonieorchester at the Goethe-Theater Bad Lauchstädt, among other engagements.

As a guest conductor, he has worked with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española, Hofer Symphoniker, Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, Elbland Philharmonie Sachsen, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Südwestdeutsche Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, LJO Rheinland-Pfalz, Bergische Symphoniker and the Orquesta de Córdoba, among others. 

His operatic engagements include serving as Music Director for the revival of Richard Ayres’s Peter Pan at the Staatstheater Mainz, as well as conducting Johann Strauss’s Eine Nacht in Venedig at the Landestheater Niederbayern. As an assistant conductor, he has collaborated with the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España under Vasily Petrenko and with the Concertgebouw Young Orchestra under Elim Chan. In 2024, he was admitted to the second level of the Forum Dirigieren of the German Music Council, a programme of which he has been a scholarship holder since April 2022. 

Fernández Caravaca completed his conducting studies at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” Weimar in Germany under Nicolás Pasquet, Ekhart Wycik and Gregor Bühl, collaborating regularly with the Jenaer Philharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, Thüringer Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach and Filharmonie Hradec Králové. During the 2024/25 academic year, he was a student in the inaugural postgraduate programme in conducting at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. His early conducting training took place in Madrid under Maestro Miguel Romea, and more recently he has participated in courses and masterclasses with orchestras including the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Niederrheinische Sinfoniker and Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, working with conductors such as Johannes Schlaefli, Cornelius Meister, Mark Rohde, Jonathan Darlington, Mikhel Kütson, Georg Fritzsch and Johannes Wildner. 

He began his musical training as a violist at the age of eight at the CPM “Músico Ziryab” in Córdoba and continued his studies at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, graduating with honours in 2017. He further complemented his education with a Master’s degree in Applied Musicology from the Universidad de La Rioja, completed between 2021 and 2024.
